Title: New and Updated Frequently Asked Questions – Friday, June 5

As the university continues to respond to the evolving circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are committed to providing up-to-date information to our community. Below you will find this week’s new and updated answers to frequently asked questions regarding university news, policies and resources. Our full list of frequently asked questions is available on the COVID-19 Resource Center.

Student Finances and Refunds

What funding resources are available to students experiencing financial hardship during this time?

Georgetown’s COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund provides one-time, short-term relief for students who are experiencing immediate financial hardship. All current undergraduate and graduate students in degree programs on the Main Campus, School of Continuing Studies and Georgetown University Medical Center (School of Medicine, Biomedical Graduate Education and School of Nursing and Health Studies) are eligible to apply. As we process funding, we have temporarily paused applications to the COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund. We will re-open the application later this summer.

The Law Center has its own separate fund, and law students can apply for support through the Georgetown Law Student Emergency Fund.

With funding provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Georgetown will provide approximately $3.055 million in direct emergency grants to eligible students with the highest financial need. Additional information about CARES Act grants is available via a set of frequently asked questions on the Revenue and Receivables website.

How does the university allocate grants from the COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund?

The university allocates grants to students based on information provided in their COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund application and information previously provided to the Office of Student Financial Services. At this time we did not disburse COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund grants to students who previously received grants funded by the CARES Act or other grants funded by the university (i.e., MSB Success Fund, GSP Necessity Fund, etc). Our priority is to ensure that students with the highest financial need, who need help during this time, are able to receive some amount of financial assistance. As we process funding, we have temporarily paused applications to the COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund. We will re-open the application later this summer.
