CNDLS and the Law Center provide instructional continuity resources for faculty teaching remotely.

All current students, faculty and staff are automatically enrolled in HOYAlert, Georgetown’s mass communication system used in the event of an emergency situation or incident. If you would like to update your information or opt out of HOYAlerts, please visit the management portal.


Operating Status Definitions

  • Open

  • Instructional Status

    • Academic and research activities continue as scheduled.
  • Employee Status

    • Employees are expected to work as scheduled.
  • Open with Liberal Leave and Instructional Continuity

  • Instructional Status

    • Classes will begin at their normally-scheduled times and in their normal locations unless faculty notify their classes that they are implementing their instructional continuity plan
      • Students who cannot travel to campus due to weather should notify their instructors and will be excused.
  • Employee Status

    • Designated emergency employees must report to work on campus on time. All other employees are expected to work as scheduled, either on campus or remotely.
      • Employees, including those working remotely, who are unable to maintain their normal work schedule should follow their department’s normal call-in procedure and use accrued paid leave, if appropriate.
      • Hybrid employees who are scheduled to work on campus should check with their supervisor to determine their status for the day. Remote workers should work as originally scheduled.

  • Open with Delayed Arrival, Instructional Continuity and Liberal Leave

    A designated arrival time will be communicated via HOYAlert.

  • Instructional Status

    • Classes scheduled at or after the designated arrival time will begin at their normal times and in their normal locations, unless faculty notify their classes that they are implementing their instructional continuity plan. Classes scheduled to start before the designated arrival time will be held according to the faculty member’s instructional continuity plan.
      • Students who cannot travel to campus due to weather should notify their instructors and will be excused.
  • Employee Status

    • Designated emergency employees must report to work on campus as instructed. All other employees, including those working remotely, are expected to report to work at the designated arrival time, will be paid for their scheduled hours and will not be required to use accrued leave for the period of delay.
      • Employees, including those working remotely, who are unable to work should follow their department’s normal call-in procedure and use accrued paid leave, if appropriate.
      • Hybrid employees who are scheduled to work on campus should check with their supervisor to determine their status for the day. Remote workers should work as originally scheduled.

  • Instructional Status

    • Classes will not be held in person. Faculty members should use alternative formats (e.g., Zoom) to ensure instructional continuity.
  • Employee Status

    • Only designated emergency employees are expected to report to campus. Medical and Nursing School students with essential clinical assignments are to report for duty. All other employees should work remotely as scheduled, if possible.
      • Employees unable to maintain their normal work schedule remotely due to childcare/school closures impacting their dependents or other related impacts should contact their managers.

  • Instructional Status

    • All classes including on-site, online and instructional continuity are canceled.
  • Employee Status

    • Only designated emergency employees are expected to report to campus. Medical and Nursing School students with essential clinical assignments are expected to report for duty. All other employees should work remotely as scheduled, if possible.
      • Employees unable to maintain their normal work schedule remotely due to childcare/school closures impacting their dependents or other related impacts should contact their managers.

  • Early Departure with Instructional Continuity; Essential Services for Campus Residents

    A designated departure time will be communicated via HOYAlert.

  • Instructional Status

    • No classes will be held in person after the designated departure time. In-person classes that normally conclude after the designated departure time will end at the designated departure time. Classes scheduled to begin at or after the designated departure time should be held according to the faculty member’s instructional continuity plan.
  • Employee Status

    • Designated emergency employees must continue to work and report to work on time as scheduled. All other employees working on campus should depart by the designated departure time, will be paid for their scheduled hours and will not be required to use accrued leave for the period of early dismissal. Employees working remotely should continue to work as scheduled, if possible.
      • Employees unable to maintain their normal work schedule remotely due to childcare/school closures impacting their dependents or other related impacts should contact their managers.
