Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community,
As part of our ongoing efforts to modernize our campus energy systems, Georgetown Energy Partners is replacing critical underground infrastructure, which requires the excavation of a section of West Road between the central heating and cooling plant and Cooper Field. We are reaching out to provide an update on the next full closure, which is scheduled for earlier than previously communicated.
Schedule
This project began in mid-June and is expected to conclude in mid-October. West Road will be single-lane traffic during this entire project with the exception of the tentative period below when the road will require a full closure in front of the Central Utility Plant between North Road and Yates Parking Lot, which can still be accessed from Reservoir Road. Pedestrian access will be maintained during all phases and can be viewed on the campus map.
From September 23 to October 15, both lanes of West Road will be closed between North Road and Yates Parking Lot.
Vehicular Traffic
When both lanes of West Road are closed, community members who park in the Southwest Quad Garage will enter and exit campus via the Canal Road entrance. Community members who park in the Hariri or Leavey Center garages will enter and exit campus via Entrance 4 on Reservoir Road. Expect delays accessing the Leavey Garage east entrance via Tondorf Road due to the redevelopment of the former Henle Village project.
GUTS Impacts
During single-lane periods, expect delays for Dupont and Rosslyn shuttles to Lombardi Circle. During full road closure periods, shuttles will only go to the bus turnaround with supplemental van service to Lombardi Circle through Leavey Garage.
Work Hours
Work hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
