If you’re anything like me you wait every year for Valentine’s Day for the exciting desserts. This year since we’re in the middle of a pandemic, baking has quickly become one of my favorite hobbies. One delicious and easy treat to bake is Swiss rolls, and today,I will be sharing the recipe with you. The nice thing about Swiss rolls is that you can choose whatever filling you like—for mine, I chose strawberry jam so the treats could have some Valentine’s day colors. My Swiss roll turned out thicker than expected this time since I did not use a sheet pan but using a sheet pan should make the rolls less thick. I hope you enjoy the recipe! Happy Valentine’s Day!

Ingredients:

  • 5 eggs
  • 1 cup flower
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • filling of your choice (ex. jam, Nutella, ganache)
  • powdered sugar (for decoration)
  • oil (for the pan)

Equipment:

  • electric mixer
  • sifter
  • parchment paper
  • mixing bowls
  • sheet pan

Instructions:

  1. Mix the egg yolks
  2. Add sugar slowly while mixing
  3. Add warm water slowly while mixing until the mix thickens
  4. Then, add vanilla extract
  5. Sift the flower on the egg yolk mix while mixing
  6. Separately, mix the egg whites until they are thick
  7. Add the egg whites to the egg yolk mix and fold it in gently
  8. Pour the mix into an oiled rectangle sheet pan
  9. Put it in the oven at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes
  10. While the mixture is on the oven, prepare parchment paper slightly larger than the size of the sheet pan
  11. Sift the powdered sugar onto the parchment paper
  12. Once the cake is ready quickly flip it on the sugared parchment paper
  13. Add the filling of your choice and use a knife to even it out
