Title: Spring 2023 Hoya Transit Pilot Enrollment

Dear [NAME],

Thank you for expressing interest in the Hoya Transit Pilot Program. Based on the strong response of interest in the program and in order to collect additional data for analysis of the pilot, the Office of the COO has approved all students who expressed interest for participation for the spring 2023 semester.

Previous Participants

If you already participated in the fall 2022 pilot, there is no need to take any action. You will automatically be re-enrolled to receive spring 2023 pilot funding. If you would like to change your benefit category (i.e. transit passes or pay-as-you-go funds), simply log in to your WMATA SmarTrip account and submit a request to change your benefit category anytime between Thursday, December 8 and 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20.

New Participants

If you are a new participant in the pilot program, you must:

  1. Follow the enrollment instructions and register your SmarTrip card in the program within the WMATA online enrollment portal by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20 in order to receive the pilot program funds by January 1. If you complete the enrollment process after December  20, pilot program funds will not be deposited in your SmarTrip account until February 1 at the earliest.
  2. If you select the Standard Transit benefit category, tap your card between January 1 – 15 at a WMATA SmarTrip station where you have tapped the card previously to activate the funds on your card. If you do not take this action, your funds will not be usable until February 1.
  • Note: If your card has never been used, tap your card at any SmarTrip station between January 1 – 15, then tap it a second time at the same station at least 24 hours later to complete the activation process.

Please note that any unused pilot program funds remaining in students’ accounts at the end of the pilot program period on May 31, 2023 will be returned to the university and no longer accessible.
