Title: Georgetown’s Application Numbers Steady for Class of 2019

Despite the challenges facing higher education, Georgetown had roughly the same number of applicants for the Class of 2019 as it did the year before.

Georgetown accepted a total of 3,201 undergraduates for the class that will enter the university this fall, from nearly 19,500 applications. The acceptance rate for the new class is 16.4 percent, down from 16.6 percent for the Class of 2018.

“It was another great year for the admissions process,” says Charles Deacon, dean of admissions.

Students have until May 1 to accept enrollment.

Promoting Diversity

About 17 percent of the Class of 2019 are Asian Americans, 12 percent are Hispanic and 11 percent African American. About 8.5 percent are foreign nationals, and women make up 55 percent of applicants.

Admitted students represent all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and 72 countries. The number of first-generation college students in the admitted class is 12 percent.

Georgetown helps achieve its socioeconomic diversity through the fundraising efforts of the1789 Scholarship Imperativeand thesupport network of the Georgetown Scholarship Program (GSP), which targets first-generation college students.

Need-Blind Policies

The university’s need-blind admissions policies continue to guarantee that eligible students are admitted without regard to their ability to pay.

Under the policy, students with demonstrated financial need are able to attend the university through a mixture of scholarships, grants, work-study and loans.

The average admitted student for the Class of 2019 is in the top 3 percent of his or her high school class. The middle 50 percent range of accepted students’ combined SAT Critical Reading and math score was 680-770.

The university also offers a nonbinding Early Action program that lets students know if they are admitted by December 15.

A total of 6,840 students applied for Early Action admission, with 912 admitted and the rest deferred.
