Title: COVID-19 Update: Resources on Main Campus

Dear Georgetown University Main Campus and Medical Center Communities:

As we shared with you earlier this week, Georgetown is making all efforts to protect the health and safety of our community in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this week, President DeGioia shared that we will transition to a virtual learning environment through the end of the semester. To help ease this transition, our academic leadership has taken steps across our campuses to ensure academic flexibility for students.

We encourage all members of our community to practice social distancing, to increase space between you and others; six feet is ideal. The university’s response attempts to reduce the density of social encounters by limiting the number of members of our community on campus and reducing the size of public gatherings.

In that spirit, we are announcing additional steps we are taking to protect the health and safety of our community.

Yates Field House: We will be closing Yates Field House on Main Campus starting on Monday, March 16.

Free Parking: Between now and March 29, we have arranged for complimentary parking in the university’s Main Campus parking garages for any students (and their families), faculty or staff who are required to be on campus during this move-out period. All vehicles will enter campus through the Canal Road entrance. Staff will be on hand to direct vehicles to the closest parking garage near the student’s residence hall.

Complimentary Meals: Since the start of spring break on campus, the university has not charged students for any meal swipes. The University will continue to offer free meals for students (and their families), faculty, and staff who are required to be on campus through March 29 at the Fresh Food Company, downstairs in Leo O’Donovan Hall.

Move-Out Resources: As you are aware, we are asking all undergraduate students to return to their permanent addresses—and move out of on-campus and off-campus residences—by Sunday, March 29. ALL residential students must complete the Required Residential Move-Out Form by Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 12 p.m. ET. We recognize that a small number of students may have personal or family situations that make it impossible or impractical to return to their permanent addresses. Undergraduate students with a compelling reason to stay on campus must apply to remain on campus.

Packing Materials: A limited number of moving boxes and packing materials can be acquired on a first-come, first-served basis in the following locations: LXR Lounge/Multi-Purpose Room; McCarthy Hall: McShain Lounge; and the Arrupe Hall Multi-Purpose Room.

Storage: Students of Georgetown Inc., commonly known as “The Corp”, in partnership with Georgetown Auxiliary Business Services, has opened Corp Storage for items to be stored until Fall Semester 2020. There are also several off-campus, private options available for storage including Dorm Room Movers (coupon code GTown25 to get 25% off). Other options are Campus Storage, dorm2dorm.com and Vertoe luggage storage.

We know that we have many members of our community with friends and family members who may be impacted by the virus. We encourage anyone who might need support to reach out to university resources, including the Office of Campus Ministry, Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) and Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP).

We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we implement measures to ensure the safety of our community. And thank you to the many Georgetown employees and first responders for all that you do as this is the truest example of our values in action.

Sincerely,

Geoff Chatas

Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
