Title: COVID-19 Update: Additional Move-Out Updates

Dear Undergraduate Student,

We are writing to provide more information on our guidance in yesterday’s message regarding move-out and on-campus operations.

We recognize that guidance to adjust the move-out date from March 29 to March 22 was sudden, but this decision was not made lightly. It was based first and foremost on the health, safety and security of our community, including both our students and the staff who are assisting in this process. Additionally, each day brings new challenges and potential restrictions on travel; your experience traveling to or from Georgetown could look very different next week.

We cannot urge you strongly enough to move out by Sunday, March 22. If this is not possible, please let us know by emailing studentaffairs@georgetown.edu, and we will work with you. We cannot guarantee that we will have staff support for moves after March 22 in this rapidly changing environment.

Whenever you are scheduled to come to campus, we recognize that, in our current environment, travel can introduce its own risks. If you can’t return to campus or feel unsafe traveling, we have a plan to ensure the safety and security of your belongings. We are exploring all options, including on-campus storage and a partnership with a professional moving and storing company to secure the belongings of any students who do not have the benefit of an immediate return to campus. We are making plans to meet the needs of graduating seniors.

Rest assured, whichever option you choose, we will not dispose of your belongings and your belongings will be secure. We recognize plans may have changed since filling out the original Required Residential Move Out Form. We request all students who cannot return to campus and need storage assistance to complete this new Storage Request Form at your earliest convenience, ideally no later than 12 p.m. EST Sunday, March 22. If you have questions about student storage, contact 2020-Student-Storage@georgetown.edu. We appreciate your patience while we work to respond to all inquiries.

The small number of students who have applied to stay on campus due to extenuating circumstances will receive a decision by March 20. We will continue to support these students with the limited resources we have on campus.

We remind our community to take the necessary precautions and practice social distancing, ideally maintaining at least six feet between you and others at all times.

Should you have additional questions, please contact our university call center at (202) 784-3510, Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. or visit the Georgetown COVID-19 Resource Center for updates and answers to frequently asked questions, university messages and other resources.

We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we implement measures to ensure the safety of our community.

Sincerely,

Geoff Chatas, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Todd Olson, Vice President for Student Affairs
