Dear Georgetown University Community Members,
DC Water will be performing construction work on campus as part of the Potomac River Tunnel Project (PRT) from approximately February 1 through the end of April. The university is partnering with DC Water on this next major stage of the DC Clean Rivers Project, which will provide long-term environmental and health benefits. The project is expected to reduce the amount of pollution from stormwater entering the Potomac River by more than 90 percent.
Please be aware of several impacts to campus traffic during the project period:
- Canal Road entrance: From approximately Feb. 1 – Mar. 20, incoming and outgoing traffic at the Canal Rd. entrance will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing traffic from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Friday and 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturdays. This work will not impact access to the Southwest Garage and Loading Dock.
- Prospect Street entrance: Prospect St. will be reduced to one lane of traffic with flaggers directing traffic from approximately Feb. 1 through Feb. 14 and from approximately Mar. 21 – Apr. 10 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Friday and 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturdays.
If you plan on entering or exiting campus during single-lane traffic times, please consider using Gate 4 (Reservoir Rd. and East-West Rd.) as an alternative entry and exit point.
