Title: 2023 Spring Semester Closing Reminders

Dear Student,

As spring classes have now ended, the Residential Living team wishes you success during these study and finals days!

Campus housing will quickly transition over to our robust summer living & conference operations and we appreciate your cooperation in following the dates and expectations below to ensure a smooth move out.

Spring Closing Dates

  • Non-graduating residents must depart by 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 14, 2023. Plan ahead! Check with these hotels if you need a place to stay past the 10 a.m. on May 14, 2023.
  • Graduating seniors must vacate campus housing by 10 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2023.
  • Residents approved for May Transition Housing may have different move-out dates. Transition Housing assignment and move-out information will be posted to Hoya Housing the second week of May.

Failure to move out at the time indicated for you will result in a squatter fine and/or a referral to student conduct.

Prepare to Move Out
It is your responsibility to review all information thoroughly and coordinate your move-out. You are responsible for removing all personal items and trash from your residence. Ensure that your on-campus space is clean and doors & windows are locked. Further details on move out expectations can be reviewed on the Spring Semester Closing website.

Parking
Parking for move-out is free for up to two hours in University parking garages; do not park on University roads. The use of oversized vehicles (box trucks, trailers, roof racks, ect.) is strongly discouraged. If parking on city streets, obey posted parking signs. Reservoir Road does not currently offer an entrance to the university.

Carts
A limited number of carts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Carts may be checked out for a maximum of a 2-hour period. A $200 fine will be issued for carts that are not returned/returned broken within the allotted time.

Storage
There are two easy summer storage services available to you:

  • Corp Storage: The Corp provides all boxes and storage materials, then you drop off your items with Corp employees at locations around campus. They will keep your boxes safe over the Summer and/or Fall semester, and your boxes will be waiting for you during move-in days in the Fall.
  • Storage Scholars: Provides boxes and supplies for you to pack, then picks up boxes from your room during move-out. Boxes will be delivered to your new Fall residence during move-in.

Trash, Inspections, and “Move Out Drive” Donations
All personal items must be removed from your space; all trash discarded into designated trash rooms or bins. All residential spaces will be inspected by University staff for potential trash, cleaning, and damages.

  • Important: a $200 per bag/box/large item removal fee will be assessed to each individual in the unit for any trash/belongings left behind.

The annual Move Out Drive provides an opportunity to “re-purpose your packing” at the end of the semester by donating gently-used household items to local charities. This year’s Drive will run from May 8 – 18 and May 21 – May 22 (noon to 4 pm daily), and includes four convenient locations to donate your gently used clothing, furniture, and household goods.

Checking Out
Notify the university you have left campus. Report your check-out by logging into Hoya Housing, clicking the “Self Check-in/Check-out” button on the homepage and completing the process to indicate you’ve left campus. This will ensure you are not charged a squatter fine or referred to student conduct.

Physical Key Return
Residents in Henle Village, Alumni Square, townhouses, Nevils and Village A must return the physical key they were issued at check in. Please fill out a Key Return Envelope and leave your key at the Harbin 104 Key Room.

  • Failure to return the key by the appropriate deadline will result in a $200 non-returned key fee.

May Transition
May Transition housing will only be offered to students sponsored by a Georgetown University department (including graduating seniors) or those with on-campus intern housing or Summer housing. For more information, visit our May Transition Housing website.
