Dear Residents of McCarthy, Reynolds and Kennedy Halls,
We are writing to provide an update on an incident in McCarthy Hall last night.
At approximately 10:15 p.m. on Friday, October 8, the Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD) responded to a report of a suspicious person on the fifth floor of Kennedy Hall. Officers located the individual in McCarthy Hall and took appropriate action to remove the individual.
We ask that any student who has additional information share it with GUPD via email at police@georgetown.edu or use the LiveSafe app. If you are ever in need of emergency assistance, dial 911 or call GUPD at (202) 687-4343.
As a reminder, we encourage all students to be aware of their surroundings when entering and exiting their residence hall, to avoid allowing individuals to enter without swiping their own GOCard and to check that doors fully close/lock upon entry and exit. Every residence hall has a dual-swipe entry system, requiring a GOCard swipe to access the building lobby and a second GOCard swipe to access a residence floor.
Out of an abundance of caution, GUPD has increased patrols in McCarthy Hall and all residence halls on campus.
You can find more information about University resources, including those to support mental well-being, on our Every Hoya Cares website, and more information on safety resources on GUPD’s Campus Services page.
Sincerely,
Georgetown University Police Department and Office of Residential Living
