What Georgetown Students Taught Me about Cura Personalis, Disability Justice, and Mental Health: A Book Launch for Mimi Khúc’s dear elia
Come enjoy an interactive arts- and disability justice-based wellness space designed by Professor Mimi Khúc to celebrate her new book, dear elia: Letters from the Asian American Abyss, as well as a discussion on what she has learned from Georgetown students (and students from all over the country) about what it means to create structural and collective care, especially in the ableist environment of the university. Join to reflect, be in community, and begin to co-create the kinds of spaces we collectively need. Co-sponsored by Disability Cultural Center and Disability Studies.
Mimi Khúc, PhD, is a writer, scholar, and teacher of things unwell, and a lecturer in Disability Studies at Georgetown University. She is the creator of the acclaimed mental health projects Open in Emergency and the Asian American Tarot, and the author of dear elia: Letters from the Asian American Abyss, a deep dive into the depths of Asian American unwellness at the intersections of ableism, model minoritization, and the university, and an exploration of new approaches to building collective care.
