The Role of the Fourth Estate: A Conversation with Marty Baron
On Wednesday, March 3 at 5:30 PM Eastern, the Georgetown Institute of Politics and Public Service will host “The Role of the Fourth Estate” with Marty Baron, retiring Executive Editor of The Washington Post.
The way the media–the “fourth estate” of American politics–operates has changed dramatically over the years, but its purpose of bringing the truth to light still remains. Marty Baron has helped shape the news industry for more than four decades, creating a storied career from uncovering the “Spotlight” scandal to the age of “fake news” accusations against the journalists he manages. This will be a frank conversation about the role of the media in American politics–what’s going right, what’s going wrong, and where he sees it going forward–as he hands over the reigns of The Post.
This conversation will be moderated by Mo Elleithee (SFS’94), Executive Director of the Georgetown Institute of Politics and Public Service, and will be live-streamed across GU Politics’ social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube). Members of the Georgetown community should RSVP to receive a Zoom link.
