*Japan Chair Special Event*: 2nd Annual Abe Lecture on US-Japan Relations (featuring a keynote address by Mr. Chris Johnstone, CSIS)
“Keynote Address: Good Problems to Have: An Agenda for the U.S.-Japan Alliance”
A public event featuring a keynote address by and discussion with Mr. Christopher Johnstone, former NSC Director for East Asia and Japan Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Please join us for the 2nd Annual Abe Lecture on U.S.-Japan Relations, a special series established at Georgetown SFS in fall 2022 to commemorate the significant contributions to U.S.-Japan cooperation of Japan’s longest-ever serving prime minister, the late Abe Shinzō (1954-2022). This public event, which will be 100% in-person and held under the Chatham House Rule, will double as the launch for the Georgetown Japan Chair’s monthly “Japan and the World” event series for the 2023-24 academic year.
The keynote speaker at this year’s Abe Lecture will be Christopher Johnstone, Senior Adviser & Japan Chair at the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS), former National Security Council Director for East Asia under President Biden. The event will begin with welcome remarks by Asian Studies Director Yuhki Tajima, who will also introduce SFS’s new Visiting Japan Chair in Modern and Contemporary Japanese Politics and Foreign Policy, Adam P. Liff. Following Mr. Johnstone’s keynote address, Prof. Liff will engage him in a brief discussion and moderate a Q&A with the audience.
To receive announcements about future events in the new “Japan and the World” event series, as well as other SFS Asian Studies events, please sign up for Georgetown’s Asian Studies Wire.
