Abstract:
People with HIV on antiretroviral therapy can live long healthy lives yet chronic residual immune activation can predispose them to non-infectious comorbidities and premature aging. People starting therapy at low CD4 counts seem more predisposed to these inflammatory complications. This is of particular importance as more than 70% of people living with HIV will be over the age of 50 by 2030. In this seminar, the acute (immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome) and chronic inflammatory complications of people with HIV on therapy will be discussed.
