Black Women as Voters, Candidates and Officeholders
2018 was a banner year for Black women who rode the tidal wave that swept them into office at the state and national levels respectively. Black women who were once thought to be unelectable proved the political pundits wrong. Not only did their victories in Congress increase their representation to 20 and in some cases defeating long serving republican incumbents, they also led democratic candidates to victory in Virginia, New Jersey and Alabama.
