Ballet Folklórico Mexicano de Georgetown | Posada: Camino a Belén
7:30 p.m. Dahlgren Quad
8:00 p.m. Gaston Hall, Healy Building
Posada is a Mexican Christmas celebration as it retells the story of Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter in Bethlehem. In order to recreate this, Ballet Folklórico Mexicano de Georgetown members gather at Dahlgren Chapel with audience members 30 minutes before the performance. They follow two performers acting as Mary and Joseph with lit candles and while singing carols. After being rejected by two homes in the two blocks near campus, the group returns to the Healy Building, Gaston Hall and are accepted inside. At 8 p.m. the performance begins.
This year BFMG will perform two songs from four Mexican regions: Jalisco, Guerrero, Michoacan, and Colima. Each song is between three and four minutes. In order to give performers time to change into the next region’s costume, guest performers will perform and there will be traditional Posada activities in order to interact with the audience.
