The President’s Office is launching the AI Fellows Program, a new initiative that pairs faculty members with AI-fluent undergraduate students to support teaching and learning in the faculty’s courses. Fellows will help faculty think through the role of AI in one or more courses, from learning tools, exercises, and assessments to knowledge applications and the student experience. The program is an opportunity for faculty to draw on both a student perspective and hands-on familiarity with emerging AI tools, and is intended to give faculty an additional resource as they consider how AI is affecting their courses and how they might respond in their teaching.
Application Process
Interested full-time faculty members are invited to submit a brief proposal through the application form. We ask that you identify the course or courses you would like the Fellow to support and briefly describe how you envision working together over the semester. This might include areas of your teaching you would like to explore, adapt, or strengthen with the support of a student AI Fellow.
If you already have a specific student in mind to serve as your Fellow, please identify them in your proposal. Faculty who do not have a student in mind are also encouraged to apply.
Examples
Faculty might engage an AI Fellow in a variety of ways over the course of a semester, including:
- Course and assessment design: The Fellow might work closely with the faculty member to review current assignments and course design, evaluate the efficacy of assignments in achieving learning objectives and propose and test new strategies and assessments to achieve those learning outcomes.
- Researching discipline-specific applications: Faculty might ask their Fellow to research how AI is being used in their discipline and consider the implications for assignments, assessments and curriculum. This might include examining how AI is changing professional practice, interviewing key sources, identifying location-based learning opportunities for Georgetown students and proposing curricular changes based on the findings.
- AI-supported course materials: The Fellow might work with the faculty member to develop or adapt course materials using AI tools. This could include creating study aids, interactive learning resources, simulations or other materials that support course learning objectives, as well as exploring ways AI can make existing materials more accessible to students.
- Gathering student feedback: As faculty integrate new content and approaches, they might engage their Fellow to conduct low-stakes peer-to-peer feedback sessions to better understand students’ experiences with new assignments, tools or approaches.
- Exploring AI tools for teaching and learning: The Fellow might identify and test emerging AI tools that could be useful in a particular course, helping the faculty member understand their capabilities and limitations and consider whether and how they might be incorporated into teaching and learning.
- Developing course-specific guidance for AI use: The Fellow might work with the faculty member to consider when and how students should use AI in a course and help develop guidance for students. This could include reviewing assignment instructions, testing how different AI tools perform on course tasks and identifying opportunities to make expectations around AI use more explicit.
Faculty Eligibility
Full-time faculty members across all departments and teaching units are eligible to apply.
Please note: Each student AI Fellow will receive $2,500 for the fall and spring semester, representing approximately 130 hours of work distributed across both semesters, given to the faculty member in an administrative account to be spent only for the AI Fellow. Federal Work-Study eligibility is welcome but is not required.
Proposals are due September 28, 2026, and will be reviewed by a faculty committee associated with the Georgetown AI Initiative. Faculty will be notified of selections by October 5, along with information about student matching and next steps for the semester.
