Abstract:
Over the past several years, the number of bile acids identified in the human body has expanded, aided by advances in mass-spectrometry methods, computational approaches and the sharing of data in public repositories. Studies have shown how important bacteria are for modifying bile acids, and we have begun to establish the key role that these molecules have in influencing interactions between the human host and gut bacteria. Data will be presented to highlight key aspects of gut microbiota-bile acid- host interaction, focusing on the roles of key nuclear receptors like the farnesoid X receptor.
