Join us for a conversation with Nils Janson (MSFS’92), and Lindsay Burkhard as they discuss their career exploration post-graduation and share insights from their experiences.
Mr. Nils Janson, a Managing Director at K&M Advisors, is an economist and financial specialist with more than 25 years of experience advising governments, financial institutions, water and electricity utilities, and private investors on strategies for developing, financing, and regulating infrastructure. He focuses on Latin America and the Caribbean, where he has advised clients in the energy and water sectors in countries including Argentina, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panamá, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela.
Mr. Janson has been an expert witness on quantum in international arbitrations, a lead author on the Inter-American Development Bank’s “Natural Gas in theCaribbean—Feasibility Studies” (2015), the World Bank’s “Water Utility Turnaround Framework: A Guide for Improving Performance” (2018), and a frequent speaker at international infrastructure conferences.
Mr. Janson has a graduate degree in International Finance and an undergraduate degree in International Economic Theory and Policy, both from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Born and raised in Panama, Mr. Janson is a native Spanish andEnglish speaker, and has a working knowledge of Portuguese and French. Prior to working at K&M Advisors, he has held positions, among others, at the World Bank, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Booz Allen. At K&M Advisors, Mr. Janson Is responsible for policy and regulation in the energy sector, as well as for the firm’s work on the water and sanitation sector.
Ms. Burkhard, a Senior Analyst in K&M’s Policy and Regulation Practice, specializes in economic, financial, and institutional analysis of water and energy projects. At K&M, Ms. Burkhard has carried out financial and regulatory due diligence of energy projects in the Caribbean, benchmarked and assessed governance and performance of water and energy utilities in theCaribbean, and made recommendations for improving strategies to identify and finance PPPs in water and sanitation in Latin America and the Caribbean.Recently, Ms. Burkhard evaluated the business case for multiple proposed Geothermal power Plant in the Caribbean.
With a background in municipal affairs in the United States, Ms. Burkhard is familiar with the constraints and challenges of local public management. Ms. Burkhard Has experience advising elected officials and decision makers on matters regarding stakeholder engagement, land use, urban planning, public safety, franchise agreements, and economic development policy.
Ms. Burkhard holds a master’s degree from Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy. She also holds a B.A. from the University of New Mexico.
