Title: Overview of Required Alcohol, Sexual Violence Prevention, and Mental Well-Being Courses

Dear Students,

Welcome!

Guided by the University’s Jesuit Tradition of Cura Personalis — caring for the whole person — Georgetown is deeply committed to the health, welfare and ultimate success of all students. That commitment calls us to offer a wide array of wellness resources for students. Certain topics are so important to your ability to thrive on campus that Georgetown requires all new incoming first-year undergraduate students, including first-time transfer students of any class year, to complete trainings on alcohol, sexual violence prevention, mental well-being and bystander intervention. Failure to complete these trainings will result in a hold on your student account, which will prevent you from registering for spring 2026 classes.

In addition to the aforementioned courses, students are required to complete the mandatory New Student Orientation (NSO) Pre-Arrival Modules. These courses have been communicated to you via the New Student Newsletter and NSO Canvas Course. If you have any questions, please contact nso@georgetown.edu.

About the Courses

To address these vital issues, Georgetown requires the completion of three online courses: Binge Thinking!, U Got This! and Mental Well-Being. These three courses are interactive, educational programs that use science-based research to educate students about mental health and well-being, alcohol and its effects, issues of healthy relationships and sexual violence prevention. These courses provide helpful strategies to promote self-care, coping skills and self-advocacy during your time here at Georgetown. For additional helpful information about mental and emotional well-being resources available to our community, please visit the Every Hoya Cares website.

As a new member of the campus community, you will also be required to attend an in-person bystander intervention training. Bystander Intervention is a proven public health strategy that helps prevent and respond to sexual assault by equipping and empowering students to intervene in risky situations.

Taking the Courses

To take each online course, simply click on the respective link below. For the Bystander Training, you will register (via Eventbrite) for an in-person session that works for your schedule.
