Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community:
We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that took place on Saturday in Monterey Park, California, where ten individuals were killed and many others injured in a senseless act of gun violence. Our grief over this incident is compounded as it came on the eve of Lunar New Year, a time celebrated by so many members of our community.
We strongly condemn this horrific act of violence, and we stand in solidarity with members of our Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAAPI) community, including the AAAPI Employee Resource Group, Asian American Student Association, the Asian American Leadership Forum and other organizations and allies who have been touched by this tragic event. We recognize that in recent years, we have seen growing violence and hatred against our Asian American community in the United States. This is deeply concerning to all of us.
If you need resources to support your emotional or mental well-being at this time, please visit our Every Hoya Cares online resource center.
The victims of the shooting and their families and friends will be remembered at religious services on campus this week. You can find a full schedule of services here.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this terrible incident.
Sincerely,
Rosemary Kilkenny, Esq.
