Title: Fall 2021 Move-In Information

Dear Students,

I am writing to provide information about Fall 2021 move-in weekend. As I shared in my June 8 message, we are planning a move-in process that will enable students to move in as safely and efficiently as possible, in line with the University’s public health protocols.

Incoming first-year and new transfer students will move in on Thursday, August 19, and Friday, August 20, 2021. Students will receive their housing assignment, move-in date and time and additional information about the move-in process from Residential Services by August 1, 2021, similar to when previous classes of incoming first-year and new transfer students have received this information.

For students and families looking to book travel now, we understand this schedule may cause some logistical complexities. In prior years, individuals who needed to book travel further in advance booked travel to be on campus for the first day of move-in with the understanding that they might not move into their on-campus residence until the second day and would need to make arrangements for accommodations until then. Students and families interested in using Georgetown Travel Services may book travel by emailing gu@ctp-travel.com to work directly with an agent. There are no agent fees associated with using Georgetown Travel Services.

Please note that incoming students will need to move in on their assigned day and time. Because of the high volume of students arriving and the need for students to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival, we will not be able to accommodate students moving in on a different day or at a different time.

University-provided move-in aides will assist with transporting new students’ belongings from their vehicle to their room. To protect the health and safety of our campus community and reduce density indoors during move-in weekend, access to campus buildings – including residential buildings – will be limited to residential students, move-in aides and University personnel only. Public restrooms will be available for parents and family members who will be on campus. Georgetown requires that everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask indoors, except when eating or drinking, or when in their personal residence.

New Student Orientation (NSO), our introduction to campus life for incoming first-year and transfer students, will be held from Saturday, August 21, to Tuesday, August 24, 2021. We will provide more details about NSO events in the coming weeks.

Rising sophomores, juniors and seniors will move in on Sunday, August 22, and Monday, August 23, 2021. Upperclass students can move in at any time on these days. Although move-in aides will not be available to assist upperclass students during move-in, carts will be available. More information about the check-in process will be provided later this summer.

I hope you have a healthy, safe and restorative summer, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Hilltop in August.

Sincerely,

Todd A. Olson, Ph.D.
