Title: Faculty, Academic Staff, Philanthropists Honored For Service, Support At Convocation

Georgetown recognized 55 faculty members and academic professionals for their 20 years of service to the university as well as 10 distinguished donors who support the university’s academic enterprise during yesterday’s Spring Faculty Convocation.

Tom Beauchamp

Tom Beauchamp, professor of philosophy and senior research scholar in the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, delivered this year’s Life of Learning address. He reflected on the early foundational years of his career.

“I have been extraordinarily fortunate in the people I met – which led to close collaborative and multidisciplinary work,” said Beauchamp, who has spent 45 years at Georgetown. “Next month is my last month at Georgetown, so this occasion and this moment are particularly meaningful to me and an opportune time to say goodbye to all of you in this wonderful university who have made my life of learning so rich and rewarding.”

Distinguished Philanthropists

Georgetown also inducted its most distinguished philanthropists into the 1789 Society during the convocation ceremony. The new members were recognized for their charitable gifts to support academic endeavors that allow the university to attract the most talented students and scholars, as well as the resources they need to enact positive global change.

“Georgetown is deeply grateful to you and the other 1789 Society members for such remarkable generosity,” said Provost Robert Groves. “Your vision and leadership provide a beacon for Georgetown’s advancement as one of the finest and most world-renowned institutions of higher education.”
