Title: Affirming Georgetown’s Commitment to Religious Diversity

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community,

We write today to reaffirm our commitment to fostering an academic community that welcomes all faiths and embraces interreligious understanding to advance our Catholic and Jesuit tradition. We were recently made aware that a Georgetown student group with access to benefits posted an Islamophobic statement on social media.

Georgetown is proud of the religious diversity of our community and strongly condemns Islamophobia and hatred of any kind. We stand in solidarity with our community.

We are reviewing this matter through established university processes, and we take our community’s concerns seriously and condemn this language, which is deeply inconsistent with Georgetown University’s values.

All students and student groups with access to benefits are required to follow University policies, including policies expressly prohibiting harassment, discrimination, intimidation and threats of harm. Individuals and groups can be sanctioned for violations of University policies.

Georgetown is deeply committed to fostering a safe community that respects the inherent dignity of each member of its community and has worked proactively to promote this through our work in Campus Ministry, numerous events and communications.

We encourage anyone who sees evidence of a bias or hate motivated incident to file a report through Georgetown’s Bias Related Incident Reporting process or to contact GUPD

Our highest priority is the safety, security and well-being of our community. Mental and emotional well-being resources are available via the Every Hoya Cares online resource center.

Sincerely,

Rosemary Kilkenny
