Dear Hoya Families,
In the wake of this weekend’s devastating events involving our friends and colleagues at Brown University, we want to share what Georgetown is doing to continue to promote safety and security on our campuses.
We want to reaffirm that the safety of our community is our top priority. Georgetown’s Office of Public Safety remains vigilant to keep us safe. We are taking appropriate actions to support our community, including coordinating with critical partners, including the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies, to keep students, faculty and staff safe.
When there is a specific safety concern anywhere on our campus, our police officers and other professionals take appropriate measures, some of which may include increased patrols, signage and public awareness campaigns, community messages and safety reminders, additional training for relevant safety staff and working with campus partners to initiate any other physical changes needed to ensure the safety of the university community. Georgetown employs multiple human and technical approaches to preventing and responding to security concerns. We also operate an Office of Threat Assessment to mitigate threats made related to Georgetown.
Please visit publicsafety.georgetown.edu for a comprehensive overview of our safety resources. In addition, you may read a message sent on Dec. 14, 2025, to all students, faculty and staff.
We recognize that the tragedy this weekend may be distressing for your students, and we encourage them to visit Every Hoya Cares for mental and spiritual well-being resources.
Thank you, and we wish you a happy and safe holiday season with your family.
Best,
Josh Bornstein
