Forum Connects Georgetown Women With Empowering Moments, Professional Network

April 5, 2019 – More than 500 alumni, students and faculty gathered for the second university-wide Women’s Forum, where participants shared their experience and expertise in leadership, entrepreneurship, law, social justice and the sciences.

Veterans in media and entertainment such as journalist Lulu Garcia-Navarro (SFS’94), host of Weekend Edition Sunday at NPR and writer/comedian/actor/producer Alison Becker (C’99), best known for her recurring role on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, were among those sharing insights.

A woman smiles looking forward at the stage while surrounded by women sitting at her table.“Be kinder to women – they’re not your competition,” Becker advised participants at the two-day symnposium, March 28-29, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. “They are your allies. So find your allies. Love them, and they’ll love you back.”

The Georgetown University Alumni Association (GUAA) and Georgetown University Law Center organized the forum, where panelists touched on topics from the ethics surrounding artificial intelligence to women working in the sports industry.

C.C. Borzilleri (C’19), a government and history major from Litchfield, Connecticut, said the Women’s Forum eased some of the anxieties she’s feeling as a graduating senior.

“The forum left me feeling powerful and confident as I head into the next phase of my life,” she said. “I knew going into the forum that the panelists and attendees would be some of Georgetown’s most impressive women, and I was still blown away by the quality of each and every person’s contributions.”
