Dear Georgetown University Community Members,
We are writing with a follow-up regarding the emergency power outage impacting the following buildings on the Hilltop Campus:
- Pre-Clinical Science (including Dahlgren Memorial Library)
- Basic Science
No one is permitted to enter the buildings during the outage until the HOYAlert all clear is sent.
Laboratory Equipment
Power is restored for some research equipment connected to the emergency circuits. Other freezers are being relocated. Freezer temperatures are being monitored and dry ice is on site and will be used if necessary. Power in the rest of the buildings remains out.
Instructional Status
Morning classes, with start times prior to 1 p.m., on Tuesday, November 11, in the impacted buildings should be held according to the faculty member’s instructional continuity plan. An update regarding afternoon classes will be shared by 10:30 a.m. Faculty members should contact the Office of the University Registrar if they would like to request another classroom space in an unaffected building. CNDLS provides instructional continuity resources for faculty teaching remotely.
Remote Work/Hoteling Space for Displaced Employees
Employees whose primary workspaces are in impacted buildings are encouraged to work from home if possible or from alternate on-campus locations. Suite 401 in the Reiss Science Building has workspaces available for employees that can be reserved through Workspaces tab in the Zoom app, and there is a kitchen/lounge available for those who may need that.
West Road One-Lane Closure by Pre-Clinical Science Building
A section of East-West Road between the Pre-Clinical Science Building and Shaw Field is operating with only one lane open to support the delivery of the emergency generator. The map below indicates the area of the closure.
Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this outage. We will continue to post ongoing updates on the Planning & Facilities Management Website.
Sincerely,
Office of Emergency Management
