Title: Update on the Power Outage Impacting Pre-Clinical Science and Basic Science Buildings on the Hilltop

Dear Georgetown University Community Members,

We are writing with updates regarding the emergency power outage impacting the following buildings on the Hilltop Campus:

  • Pre-Clinical Science (including Dahlgren Memorial Library)
  • Basic Science

No one is permitted to enter the buildings during this time until the HOYAlert all clear is sent. The safety of our community is our paramount concern as we work to re-open the buildings once the power is fully restored.

Laboratory Equipment

New: Emergency power has been restored allowing for limited lighting and support for critical infrastructure. Power in the rest of the buildings remains out.

Instructional Status

New: All classes on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the impacted buildings should be held according to the faculty member’s instructional continuity plan. An update regarding tomorrow’s classes will be shared this afternoon. Faculty members should contact the Office of the University Registrar if they would like to request another classroom space in an unaffected building. CNDLS provides instructional continuity resources for faculty teaching remotely.

Remote Work/Hoteling Space for Displaced Employees

Employees whose primary workspaces are in impacted buildings are encouraged to work from home if possible or from alternate on-campus locations. Suite 401 in the Reiss Science Building has workspaces available for employees that can be reserved through the Workspaces tab in the Zoom app, and there is a kitchen/lounge available for those who may need that.

West Road One-Lane Closure by Pre-Clinical Science Building

A section of East-West Road between the Pre-Clinical Science Building and Shaw Field is operating with only one lane open to support the delivery of the emergency generator. The map below indicates the area of the closure.

Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this outage. We will continue to post ongoing updates on the Planning & Facilities Management Website

Sincerely,

Office of Emergency Management
