Title: Transition to Papercut Printing

Dear Colleagues,

In fall 2023, we announced a transition to PaperCut as the university’s print service. Since then, all printers on campus have been updated with Papercut, while temporarily allowing access to the previously used direct print system.

As part of our ongoing sustainability and cybersecurity improvement initiatives, the University is pleased to share that the network print services are now fully transitioned to PaperCut. Beginning on June 1, Direct Print will be disabled on all network printers on the Hilltop Campus.

Please ensure that you have PaperCut set-up on your devices prior to the June 1 transition date to ensure a seamless transition. All offices and departments will be fully transitioned to PaperCut over the course of the summer.

More information about PaperCut

The change to PaperCut:

  • Provides secure printing through NetID-based login
  • Protects printing output from unauthorized access
  • Shields network printers with cybersecurity firewall protections

Printing via PaperCut allows you to release your print jobs from any device on campus.  This can be beneficial if your usual device is out of order or you are at a different location and need to print. PaperCut provides secure release, ensuring privacy of your printed documents as you need to login at the device in order for your documents to print. Please visit the UIS website for step by step instructions on using PaperCut.

Please note: Each time you print, you will see the cost of the print job. However, employees are not billed personally, as all print expenses are paid at the campus level.

Tap Enabled Go-Cards

Since Papercut requires GU NetID verification when printing, it is recommended that you use a tap enabled GOCard. Look for the tap enabled symbol on your GOCard or tap your GOCard on the device to confirm. If you need to request a new GOCard that is tap enabled, visit the UIS walk-up Service Desk.

Consider These Ways to Care for Our Common Home: Design documents that must be printed to be optimal for black and white, double sided printing. Additionally, you can reduce the number of pages printed by: reducing margins, using smaller images, and including multiple slides per page when printing presentations. Remember to order the minimum recommended 30% post-consumer recycled content paper option when you place your paper order. Finally, when you host events or large meetings, distribute materials electronically.
