(WASHINGTON – October 16, 2020) – New York City resident Thomas W. Purcell (F’93, P’23) has been appointed to Georgetown University’s Board of Directors. Tom will serve a three-year term, beginning at Georgetown’s fall board meeting – held virtually this past week on October 7-8th.

Tom is the founder and CEO of Lake Trail Capital, his family office, which he started in 2015. Mr. Purcell started his investment career in 1998 at Tiger Management. He departed Tiger in 1999 to join Viking Global Investors where he served in various investment and management capacities for over 14 years.
Having joined the firm as analyst covering financial services companies, Mr. Purcell assumed portfolio management responsibilities at Viking in 2003. As a Portfolio Manager, he was responsible for managing a team of analysts and a diversified portfolio with a primary focus in financial services as well as business devices, energy and other industries. While at Viking, Mr. Purcell served as the firm’s Co-Chief Investment Officer from 2012 until June 2014, as a member of the Management Committee from 2005 until March 2015, and as a member of the Executive Committee from July 2007 until March 2015.
Mr. Purcell earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar, and a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. He serves on the board of the Georgetown University Endowment, The Tiger Foundation and is on the Cold Spring Harbor Lab Endowment.
