If you and your roommates will not be on campus over spring break, please take the following steps to appropriately prepare your space while you’re away:

  1. Prevent pest and rodent issues by taking out all trash and recycling, putting all food in airtight containers, wiping down surfaces and sweeping/vacuuming.
  2. Clean personal refrigerators and dispose of perishable food that may spoil.
  3. Turn the heater in your space to medium temperature or 60°.
  4. Unplug all electronic devices.
  5. Take all valuable and necessary items with you, such as your passport, photo ID, cash, medications, laptops, etc.
  6. Turn off all lights.
  7. Close and lock all windows and doors, including the deadbolt on the primary entrance to your space.

55H students should contact the front desk between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. for access issues. After 10 p.m., students should call the Resident Fellow on duty at 202-302-6524 if they have access issues.

Safety Information

In the case of an emergency, contact the Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD) on the Hilltop at 202-687-4343 or on the Capitol Campus at (202) 662-9325. If off campus, contact 911.

If you are planning international travel, be sure to visit the International Safety website for guidance. Georgetown travelers are advised that flight disruptions, cancellations and logistical challenges are highly likely. Plan accordingly.

Public Health Reminders

  • Flu and other respiratory viruses are still circulating in many places. If you become sick with a communicable illness, take steps to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, like wearing a well-fitted mask and practicing good hygiene to care for yourself and protect others. Please be aware that there continues to be an increase in measles cases globally and in the United States. The best protection against measles is immunization with the MMR vaccine. If you are exposed or develop any symptoms (a rash that begins on the head and neck is a prominent feature, but is usually preceded by non-specific symptoms often including high fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes), reach out to the Student Health Center or your provider immediately.
  • Students can book vaccination appointments at the Student Health Center on campus, or visit Safeway, CVS, Walgreens and Morgan’s Pharmacy off campus for immunizations.
  • If you are traveling internationally, please review the CDC website for your destination to check for any health advisories so that you can take the appropriate precautions.
  • Before you depart, the Student Health Center also offers Travel Health visits online or in person so that a provider can review your records and offer you any vaccinations or prophylactic medicines as needed. If upon your return you develop any concerning symptoms, particularly a fever, please make an appointment with the Student Health Center by calling 202-687-2200.

Well-Being Over Break

Georgetown Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) offices remain open during spring break. During business hours, call the main number, 202-687-6985, option 2, and after hours, press option 1. If you are working with a therapist outside of CAPS, please make sure to share with your provider about any travel plans, as well as protocols they may have regarding reaching them in case you are in crisis. It is also important to ensure that you have an adequate supply of any psychotropic medications you may have been prescribed.
