Title: Power Outage Impacting Multiple Buildings on the Hilltop

Dear Georgetown University Community Members,

We are writing to inform you that there is an emergency power outage impacting the following buildings on the Hilltop Campus due to flooding in the Pre-Clinical Science Building basement:

  • Pre-Clinical Science (including Dahlgren Memorial Library)
  • Basic Science

No one is permitted to enter the buildings during the outage until the HOYAlert all clear is sent.

We do not have an estimated resolution time and will keep the community updated as we know more. Updates will be posted on the Planning & Facilities Management Website. We anticipate the next update at 2:00pm.

Laboratory Equipment

Sensitive laboratory equipment should be set to prevent damage from a possible power surge when power is restored. For assistance with needed adjustments, please connect with an onsite staff member in a red vest or contact the Office of Environmental Health and Safety

Research equipment connected to the emergency circuits are impacted. Please keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed if possible – freezer temperatures are being monitored.

Hoteling Space for Displaced Employees

Employees on campus whose primary workspaces are in impacted buildings are encouraged to work from alternate on campus locations. Suite 401 in the Reiss Science Building has workspaces available for employees that can be reserved through Workspaces tab in the Zoom app, and there is a kitchen/lounge available for those who may need that.

Instructional Status

For the rest of today, classes in the impacted buildings should be held according to the faculty member’s instructional continuity plan. Faculty members should contact the Office of the University Registrar if they would like to request another classroom space in an unaffected building.

Accessible campus pathways can be found on the campus map. If you are in an impacted building with no working elevator and need assistance, call GUPD at (202) 687-4343.

Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this outage.

Sincerely,

Office of Emergency Management
