Title: Learn About Student Health and Well-Being Resources

Dear Students,

At Georgetown, we are committed to the health and well-being of all members of our community. We encourage you to learn more about and take advantage of the following campus resources:

Student Health Center

The MedStar Georgetown University Student Health Center (SHC) is a valuable resource staffed by primary care physicians and nurse practitioners. The SHC medical team has specialized training and experience in promoting university student health. The SHC provides an array of services, including:

  • Routine primary care,
  • Well-woman visits,
  • Urgent care (sickness, pain or injury),
  • Chronic condition management,
  • Allergy shots,
  • Sports Medicine evaluation,
  • Prescription refills,
  • Travel Health Consultations including the Yellow Fever Vaccine
  • Mental health care (e.g., depression, anxiety, ADHD) and
  • Sexual health care (routine screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), testing and treatment for STIs, as well as HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis).

In-person and virtual appointments can be scheduled by calling 202-687-2200 or directly online. Saturday appointments are available during the academic year. The SHC guarantees same-day or next-day appointments on weekdays. New this year, the SHC has a free Nurse Line to answer any urgent medical questions (please call our SHC and request a Nurse Line appointment).

The SHC is a part of the MedStar Health Medical Group, which means that providers can make expedited referrals to the MedStar Emergency Department and MedStar subspecialists when needed. Your electronic medical records are integrated and accessible across the entire MedStar system, ensuring continuity of care. You will be able to access your medical records and your provider via the myMedStar Patient Portal.

If you have the Student Health Insurance Premier Plan, SHC is the preferred care location, which means that SHC visits will be covered at $0-10 per visit with no deductible. All testing in the clinic and sent-out labs are also covered at 100%.

All Student Health Insurance enrollments and waivers continue to be processed in a timely manner. While our team is currently experiencing delays responding to emails and phone calls, we are actively working through all inquiries in order of priority. To ensure these delays do not cause concern, penalty fees for insurance balances will not be assessed until November. We sincerely appreciate your patience as we work through responding to every message.

Mental Well-Being Resources

Georgetown provides a variety of resources to support students’ mental and emotional well-being, including:

  • Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS), Georgetown’s primary mental health provider, offering a number of ongoing services and referrals to community providers;
  • Health Education Services, the primary campus provider of health education, working with students who may be experiencing substance abuse, eating disorders, sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking and pregnancy and more, and
  • TimelyCare.

We also encourage you to explore the Every Hoya Cares Online Resource Center. This comprehensive site provides information on the on- and off-campus resources available to Georgetown students — many of which are free and confidential.

Spiritual Care and Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry seeks to equip students to lead lives of deeper meaning, belonging and purpose. Chaplains and the Residential Ministers who live in your building are available for one-on-one conversation, whatever you are working through, and no religious affiliation is needed to reach out. Campus Ministry also offers worship across traditions, space for meditation and other spiritual practices, diverse student communities, and retreats accessible to students of all backgrounds. Visit the Campus Ministry website to find a chaplain or explore resources and programs.

Campus Recreation

As the primary recreation and fitness provider for the Georgetown University community, Campus Recreation at Yates Field House provides fitness and wellness programs and spaces for Georgetown students, faculty and staff. Visit the Campus Recreation website for more information about facilities, programs and hours.

We hope that these resources help to support your well-being and that you have a safe and healthy fall semester.
