Title: Homecoming Weekend (Oct. 3-Oct. 4)

Dear Students,

This weekend, we will celebrate Homecoming and welcome generations of Hoyas and their families back to the Hilltop for a range of exciting events. I hope that you will attend and enjoy these events and play an active role in making our campus a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

With thousands of additional guests and visitors on campus and in the neighborhood to support our players, students should know there will be additional daytime and evening monitoring of these areas. As a result, while we will have an increased staff presence on campus, our efforts are focused on enforcing current policy and expectations for a healthy community.

Please note that the additional measures described below are done with that intention in mind.  I hope you will join me in being champions (both on and off the field) of our values.

Please note several important reminders and requests:

  • Students must follow all aspects of the Code of Student Conduct (“the Code”) at all times, and students are responsible for the actions of their guests. Violations of the Code, both on and off campus, will be taken seriously. Failure to comply with any reasonable directive from a university official or law enforcement officer performing their duties is a violation of the Code. If an individual at your residence or property violates the Code, you are responsible for their behavior and conduct, regardless of whether or not the individual is also a Georgetown student. Students may be held accountable for any violations committed by their guests, whether or not the individual was directly involved in the prohibited conduct.

  • Excessive noise is a violation of the Code. Behaviors creating excessive noise constitute a Code violation for “Failure to Meet Residential or Off-Campus Living Expectations.” Students who are found responsible for violating the Code will be held accountable. The Code States:

    • a) Residential Living Expectations – Excessive Noise: To make or allow excessive sound which infringes upon the community’s right to reasonable peace and quiet during any time, including but not limited to, failure to comply with the Quiet Hours policy.

    • b) Off-Campus Living Expectations – Excessive Noise: To make or allow excessive sound which infringes upon the community’s right to reasonable peace and quiet at any time, which includes noise that may be heard inside or outside of the building if it can be heard beyond the property line, taking into account the time and the nature of the activity generating the sound.

  • Village A rooftops and Alumni Square will be monitored by university staff, including security and police personnel. To ensure fire safety at all times, there will be designated monitoring of Village A and Alumni Square, and enforced capacity limitations. Village A and Alumni Square residents will continue to be able to access their residences.

  • Open containers of alcohol are prohibited in public spaces on and off campus. Please note that, in addition to university policy violations, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) can issue a field arrest citation for possession of an open container of alcohol.

  • Please do not purchase any beverages in glass bottles, as they can be dangerous when discarded or broken. Glass bottles may be confiscated.

  • Please be aware of your surroundings and take advantage of safety resources like the LiveSafe mobile app, Safe Rides and Late Night Shuttles to stay safe and secure this weekend.

As always, our staff are resources to you. If you have questions, ask. Thank you for helping to welcome home our Hoya community and represent the university well in our neighborhood.

Hoya Saxa!
