Title: Roman Resident Named to Georgetown University’s Board of Directors

(WASHINGTON – October 16, 2020) –  Rome resident Fr. Daniel Patrick L. Huang, S.J. has been appointed to Georgetown University’s Board of Directors. Fr. Huang will serve a three-year term, beginning at Georgetown’s fall board meeting – held virtually this past week on October 7-8th.

“We are very pleased to welcome Father Daniel Patrick L. Huang to the Georgetown University board,” said Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia. “Father Huang’s leadership, vision and experience will strengthen and shape the future of the University.“

Fr. Daniel Patrick Huang, SJ is a Jesuit priest and professor in the Faculty of Missiology of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He is also moderator of the Renewal Program for Missionaries of the same Faculty.

Prior to this assignment at the Gregorian, he served for eleven years (2008 to 2019) in the central office (the General Curia) of the Society of Jesus in Rome, as General Counselor and Regional Assistant for Asia Pacific under two Superiors General, Fr. Adolfo Nicolas, SJ, and Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ. His brief as Regional Assistant included China, Japan and Korea in Northeast Asia; Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and East Timor in Southeast Asia; and Australia.

Since his ordination as a priest in 1988, he has been engaged in various ministries: theological education, as professor of theology at the Loyola School of Theology of the Ateneo de Manila University; priestly formation, as Rector of San Jose Seminary, the national seminary for diocesan priests run by the Jesuits in the Philippines since 1601 (2000 to 2004); and governance, as Provincial Superior of the Jesuits in the Philippines from 2004 to 2008.

Fr. Huang obtained both his Licentiate (1992) and his Doctorate (1996) in Sacred Theology from the Catholic University in America, in Washington, DC, working for his doctoral dissertation under the guidance of Fr. Joseph Komonchak and Fr. (later Cardinal) Avery Dulles. In 2016, Pope Francis appointed him a Consultor for the Congregation for Catholic Education in the Vatican.
