Mental health resources are important because they allow an individual to access spaces where they can open up and express themselves. Whether it may be expressing how they feel in person, through technology or participating in a certain action, mental health resources can help reduce the levels of stress and raise the level of well-being.
Since I have been home throughout the pandemic and the online school year, it has been a struggle for me mentally. However, I try to stay positive, which is a new mindset I started to take on. When I stay positive about my life and well-being, I can focus on what goals I want to accomplish and fun activities I can partake in during these difficult times. I find time to exercise, meditate and have “me time.”
I felt anger, sadness and other indescribable feelings when hearing about the newer instances of unarmed Black men being killed and when the Capitol was stormed – the color of my skin is still seen as a target rather than as human. Then, I go back to my mindset of positivity for my well-being while still thinking about these pressing issues. One may say that my positive mindset is just a facade, but I believe it is a way to grow and continue to push through.
