An Important Health Reminder
During this season of increased risk for influenza, gastrointestinal and respiratory illness, please take a moment to review the steps we are taking to help keep our community healthy.
As you may be aware, The George Washington University has reported approximately 85 cases of gastrointestinal illnesses that are reportedly caused by norovirus, which means it can be spread from person to person. At this time no outbreak has been reported at Georgetown University, but we did want to share with you some important updates and reminders.
•Recommended precautionary steps to help prevent the spread of illness include frequent and thorough hand washing with soap and water. When that is not possible, use of personal hand sanitizer is recommended as an alternative.
•As a precaution, additional hand sanitizers are being placed throughout our campus and those already in place are being refilled, beginning with residence halls and building entrances.
•Cleaning staff is giving special attention to common areas and high contact surfaces such as bathrooms, doorknobs, and handrails in residence halls as well as academic and administrative buildings.
Students who are not feeling well and experiencing symptoms of severe vomiting and diarrhea should seek medical treatment at the Student Health Center or Georgetown University Hospital. Faculty and staff should seek treatment from their usual healthcare provider. In general, if you feel ill, please use good judgment and refrain from group activities.
We will provide updates via this web page and broadcast email as needed.
