“I came to Georgetown wide-eyed, ready to study government in the nation's capital and get involved in politics. I could have easily become jaded along the way, but Georgetown's Jesuit values and commitment to public service kept me grounded and nourished me. Now I leave the Hilltop with gratitude and a renewed sense of purpose that will guide me on my journey.” – Amanda Scott (C’19), a government and major and from Mobile, Alabama, and 2019 Senior Convocation speaker

“I chose Georgetown because they didn’t just give me the money to come here, but they gave me the resources to stay here. Those resources have been plentiful and many. I am now a proud member of the Georgetown Scholars Program, the Community Scholars Program, and I have found a second family within GU Women of Color. The biggest takeaway I have from my time at Georgetown is to, above all else, always be a resource for others. Whether that takes form as a mentor or a friend, Georgetown has taught me to continue the work of facilitating community and always fight for those voices who aren’t typically heard.” – Shakera Vaughan (C’19), a government and sociology major from Richmond, Virginia, and 2019 Senior Convocation speaker
