The Future of Down Syndrome with Professor Rosemarie Garland-Thomson and George Estreich
The Future of Down Syndrome
Part I of a 2-part series
with
Professor Rosemarie Garland-Thomson, Emory University
George Estreich, Author, Fables and Futures
Moderated by Professor Joel Michael Reynolds
In this two-part series, we will explore how people with Down syndrome, disability studies scholars, and disability justice activists are reframing how Down syndrome, genetic testing, and CRISPR are understood, challenging ableist and genocidal discourses. We will examine the lenses used to explore these issues, and how we can transform them.
In Part 1, we will explore how the community of disability justice activists, disability studies scholars and people with Down syndrome successfully intervened in an Atlantic reporter’s exploration of these issues, and in Part II (Fall 2021) we will examine Down syndrome through the lens of lived experience.
Please join us for these important discussions.
