Research Grand Rounds: Adapting an evidence-based telephone genetic counseling intervention for Latina women at-risk of Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer
This month’s Research Grand Rounds features Alejandra Hurtado de Mendoza, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Hurtado de Mendoza will discuss “Adapting an evidence-based telephone genetic counseling intervention for Latina women at-risk of Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer”.
Dr. Hurtado de Mendoza, a former GHUCCTS KL2 scholar, is a Social Psychologist who extended her interdisciplinary training
and research to Anthropology and Communication, Culture, Technology and Translational Genomics. Her NCATS, NCI, NINR, and Foundation-supported research leverages discipline-spanning and community-engaged translational team science to design and evaluate interventions to address cancer disparities among underserved ethnically and racially diverse populations. Her talk will focus on the use of an adapted telephone genetic counseling intervention to address stark disparities in the uptake of genetic risk assessment in high-risk Latina women.
Research Grand Rounds are sponsored by the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS) and MedStar Health Research Institute to bring together our diverse clinical and research communities to share research that spans disciplines and stages of translation to improve individual and community health.
