Neuroscience Seminar Series: “Traumatic Brain Injury: Insights from Acute Neuroimaging”
Title: “Traumatic Brain Injury: Insights from Acute Neuroimaging”
Speaker:
L. Christine Turtzo, MD, PhD
Neurologist, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Acute Studies Core in the Acute Cerebrovascular Diagnostics Unit, NINDS
Location:
Medical-Dental Building NE401 and via Zoom
About the Speaker:
Dr. Christine Turtzo completed her undergraduate studies at Swarthmore College, then obtained an MD and a PhD from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
After medical internship at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, she completed her neurology residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her training continued with a postdoctoral fellowship on sex differences in stroke with Dr. Louise McCullough at the University of Connecticut Medical Center, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship on neuroinflammation in traumatic brain injury models with Dr. Joseph Frank at NIH through the Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine. In 2015 she joined the NIH as the Staff Clinician with Dr. Lawrence Latour’s TBI team. She is board certified in Neurology.
As part of the Acute Studies Core (ASC), Dr. Turtzo investigates the acute neuroimaging and pathophysiology of traumatic brain injury (TBI). To advance the evaluation and care of TBI patients, she and her colleagues investigate the relationships between acute injury and longitudinal outcomes. Dr. Turtzo’s research interests include neuroinflammation, sex differences, and neuroimaging in TBI.
