The panel will examine the current situation of migration in the Americas and prospects for migration in the coming months, especially in light of the coming U.S. presidential elections, the COVID-19 pandemic, seasonal changes, and ongoing political and economic developments in the region. Particular attention will be paid to the US-Mexico border region, the impact of Venezuelan refugees throughout the Americas, and the challenges facing Central American migrants and asylum seekers. There will be a question and answer session following the panel discussion.

About the Panelists
Andrew Selee has been President of the Migration Policy Institute since August 2017. He also chairs MPI Europe’s administrative council. Prior to joining MPI, he spent 17 years at the Woodrow Wilson Center, where he founded the Center’s Mexico Institute. He has also worked as staff in the U.S. Congress and on development and migration programs in Tijuana, Mexico.
Silvia Elena Giorguli Saucedo has been the president of El Colegio de México (Colmex) since 2020. Previously, she was a professor and researcher in the Centro de Estudios Demográficos, Urbanos y Ambientales (CEDUA) at El Colegio de México. She was also the director of CEDUA, president of the Mexican Demographic Society, and founding director of the journal Coyuntura Demográfica.
Katharine Donato holds the Donald G. Herzberg Chair in International Migration and is Director of the Institute for the Study of International Migration in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Her most recent book is co-authored with Elizabeth Ferris, Refugees, Migration and Global Governance: Negotiating the Global Compacts.
