Medieval Studies Seminar: Leon Battista Alberti’s Deiphira: A Digital Project
The Deiphira Project is an international collaboration undertaken by several scholars to transcribe, translate, and contextualize one manuscript copy of the Deiphira, Leon Battista Alberti’s treatise on love, now digitized and housed at Harvard’s Houghton library. Project members will introduce The Deiphira Project, speak to the tools and methods employed to build the professionally diverse medieval-oriented digital undertaking, outline the traditional and computer-enabled scholarly products now underway, and articulate the digital ethos that aims to amplify rather than replace traditional forms of research and engagement. The final project, housed at Georgetown University’s Department of Italian in concert with the Global Medieval Studies Program, illustrates how scholars can capitalize upon the many sources now available via the online medium.
The symposium will feature interventions from several of the project’s team members, followed by a discussion with audience members.
