Friday Music Series: Lucas Ashby’s Brain Trust
Brazilian-American multi-instrumentalist and composer Lucas Ashby brings to his projects a background in rhythms and melodies from South America, West Africa, India, Eastern Europe, American Jazz, & Hip Hop. As a sideman, he has performed for the last nine years as percussionist with afrobeat-funk powerhouse Big Mean Sound Machine, as well as Brazilian national treasure Ivan Lins, 14-time GRAMMY winner Paquito D’Rivera, and acclaimed vocal jazz quartet New York Voices (appearing on their 2007 GRAMMY Award-winning album “A Day Like This”). He is one of the composers and organizers behind genre-bending 21st-century chamber ensemble Arco Belo, which has performed at the Kennedy Center and Strathmore Mansion.
The Georgetown University Music Program’s Friday Music Series features acclaimed artists in free concerts on select Fridays at 12:30 p.m., integrated into the undergraduate course (MUSC 200) titled “Live Music in Context.”
