Alexander L. “Alex” Barrasso is the Senior Advisor for DEIA in the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). Alex also served as the INL’s Director of the Office of Afghanistan and Pakistan Affairs, and from 2019-2021, he directed a $1.1 billion program on critical infrastructure protection and public security in Riyadh.
Alex joined the State Department in 1999. He served as ChargĂ© d’Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission at U.S. Embassy Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam from 2010-2012, and as Deputy Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs in Prague from 2013-16. He has served in six different countries and speaks Czech, Spanish, Thai, Italian and German.
