Annual Safety Week: Thursday Activities
National Preparedness Month is observed each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies.
Help make Georgetown a safer learning, living and working environment by participating in our Annual Safety Week, beginning Monday, September 19, 2022.
Throughout the week, you will have the opportunity to meet staff members from the Office of Emergency Management, Office of Neighborhood Life, Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD), Georgetown Emergency Response Medical Service (GERMS), and others, and learn how you can work with them to address the safety matters important to you and our community. Featured events include:
Thursday, September 22, 2022
- 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Officer Meet and Greet/Tabling (Red Square) with GUPD Crime Prevention. Water, Powerade, fruit and snacks will be provided to students who stop by to learn about safety and crime prevention tips, and how to register for an active shooter training session.
- 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Tabling/CPR Demo with GERMS (Red Square) GERMS will be doing hands-on CPR, tourniquet training and recruiting for new GERMS members.
- 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. OEM Table Come meet the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) team, learn about emergency preparedness and life-saving skills like Stop the Bleed, and get a chance to win preparedness items, including a mini-first aid kit, poncho, & more.
- 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Fire Marshal Table (Fire Safety DEMO, John Leonard) Fire Safety (Red Square). The Fire Marshall will demonstrate how to properly use a fire extinguisher and explain the importance of safety awareness.
- 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Bell-Ringer Ride October 22nd Registration Table (Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center) Come out and register to join GUPD and other members of the community who will be participating in our inaugural bike ride to benefit cancer research.
- 9 p.m. – 12 a.m.: Safe-Rides Trivia Challenge Participate in the Trivia Challenge (Similar to Cash Cab) when taking advantage of Safe Rides on Thursday night. There will be giveaways for contestants.
