U.S. Energy Secretary Moniz Receives Diplomacy Award

April 14, 2016 – U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz received the Jit Trainor Award for Distinction in the Conduct of Diplomacy from Georgetown's Institute for the Study of Diplomacy this week when he delivered a lecture focusing on security through energy diplomacy.

He noted that the role of the Energy Department is to address national security concerns – nuclear security, non-proliferation and terrorist threats – while maintaining the push for a clean energy agenda. All of which, he explained, is no small task.

Moniz is the first scientist to receive the award. Previous recipients include Wendy Sherman, former U.S. undersecretary of state for political affairs; Francis Deng, who served as South Sudan's first ambassador to the United Nations; and Louise Arbor, former U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights.
