Podcasting enables anyone to have audio content delivered automatically to their PC, Mac or mobile device whenever a new MP3 file is placed on the website. Georgetown University's Office of Communications provides the Georgetown University Forum online in an RSS (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary) format. Using an application to "subscribe," the application checks our site regularly and starts a download whenever it finds something new.

What software do I need to use?
To start listening to our podcasts, you need software that "subscribe" to the RSS podcast feeds from websites you select. There are different podcast software available, many of which are free of charge. Most are available as desktop software that you download and install on your computer or mobile device. Several Web-based options are available as well.
Once you have installed your software, simply follow the instructions for your particular application to subscribe to the RSS podcast feeds you want. Georgetown University does not warranty or recommend any specific software. Users should review and select software that best fits their system and preferences.
What is MP3?
MP3 is an audio compression format which reduces the amount of data required to reproduce audio, while providing near-CD quality sound. MP3s can be played on your computer using programs like RealPlayer, Windows Media Player or Quicktime (available for free download), as well as, portable MP3 players and mobile devices.
How to download an MP3?
You may either use podcast software or you can download an MP3 file to your computer directly. To download on a PC, simply right click on the file, and select 'Save Target As'. To download on a Mac, simply click the control button and select 'Save Link As'. MP3s can then be played on your computer using programs listed above or saved to you portable MP3 player or mobile devices for listening.
