University Commemorates Those Who Died in 9/11 Attacks

September 11, 2012 – Students, faculty and staff gathered on Healy Lawn this morning to commemorate those who lost their lives during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Officiating the service and offering prayers and reflections on the 11th anniversary of the attacks were Rev. Kevin O’Brien, S.J., vice president of mission and ministry; Rabbi Rachel Gartner, director of Jewish Chaplaincy; and Imam Yahya Hendi, Muslim chaplain.
Aaron Johnson, managing director of Campus Ministry, read aloud the names of Georgetown community members who died during the attacks. He asked those in attendance to use the event to “pursue understanding and work together for peace.”
